Jane Schaefer
Chair of the Learning Gardens Working Group
Jane has been on the Board since the Green Center began and is also one of its founders. Additionally, she volunteers as the Chair of the Learning Gardens Working Group. Under her supervision, her committee designs, plants and maintains all of the gardens on the grounds of the Center with the exception of the herb garden. She also is a founder of U City in Bloom and a member of the North American Butterfly Association. Everyone who knows her knows how much she loves the outdoors, especially gardening. She has a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and a Masters Degree in Computer Science and is the owner of Schaefer Software Services.
Georgia Schmidt
Graphic Designer
Georgia, who has a Masters Degree in Architecture, has been a volunteer at the Green Center since the spring of 2002 and has been instrumental in designing the newsletter and the River des Peres brochure. She is also working on designing environmental signs which will eventually be placed in the Green Center's outdoor spaces. She has her own graphic design business, Georgia Schmidt Designs, which she started 20 years ago. During that time, she also worked as staff architect for the New Orleans Historic Districts/Landmarks Commission and taught design classes at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California; the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles; and the Southern California Institute of Architecture ( SCI-Arc).
Rick Walters
Nature Photography Class Leader
Rick has been on the Board for the past three years and is a strong advocate of environmental education. He is on both the Learning Gardens Working Group and the Facilities Committee. In addition, Rick volunteers to lead our nature photography classes. For the past twenty-five years, he has been an avid nature photographer specializing in close-up photography. He is one of the few photographers in the world who photographs individual snowflakes. His pictures have appeared in National Geographic and the Audubon Magazine as well as in numerous other magazines and textbooks. Rick has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology as well as a Medical Degree and is in private practice as a dermatologist.
